Why Your Business Needs a Social Media Calendar
Regardless of the product or service, every business should be marketing and branding on social media and to effectively do that, your business needs a social media calendar.
It's all in your head!
If you're like me, you are constantly juggling (in your head) tons of idea of how to market your business. At some point, you've got to get the ideas out of your head and put them into action. A social media calendar is great tool to help you put those great ideas to work in making you some money!.
Educate yourself about social media.
Not using or having a basic understanding about how to use social media to grow your business is like leaving money on the table! Now, I don't want you to overwhelm yourself but if you're willing to put in a couple of hours of research, you can usually find very solid social media advice online. Personally, I like Hubspot.com's social media advice, free tools and information.
CAUTION: Don't spend so much time researching that you never actually put into practice what you've learned. You've got to jump into this with both feet and not be afraid to fail or look foolish. As I said before, you do want to educate yourself a bit.
Three things you must do.
- Make sure that you try to focus on one or two platforms where your target market is spending their time. Establish yourself on those platforms and when you have a firm grip on what makes that platform tick, then you may want to consider adding other platforms. Eventually, you'll probably want to seek a social media company to help you. One of the hardest things we solopreneurs have to endure is wearing all hats in our business at the beginning.
- Make sure to only use hashtags (#) where it makes sense to use hashtags - Instagram and Twitter. Using hashtags anywhere else is a waste of time (sorry if I burst your bubble on this).
- Be consistent in your posting. Here's what I finally did to get a grip on my social media marketing strategy. I decided on two campaigns I want to focus on and I schedule posts that will drive people to one or the other of my campaigns. Since I'm a life and business coach, one marketing campaign focuses on a life coaching topic and the other on a business coaching topic.
Remember, try to focus your efforts on 2 but no more than 3 social media platforms. You also want to make sure that your profiles are 100% complete. Here's a great free tool I found - a 2018 Calendar - which will help you create a years' worth of social media posts.
