Women will become equal financially by starting and supporting other women’s businesses. Equality probably won't be found working for someone else but equality is often a by-product of entrepreneurship.
As a woman, do you feel equal? Does your pay grade tell you that you are equal?
Or does your inability to borrow money for your business make you feel unequal? Does the fact that you have a job which is probably only using the tip of the iceberg of your skill set make you feel unequal?
Yes, women have come a long way. We can vote now and there are more women in the workforce now than ever before. Women are starting businesses at a faster rate than men. So, yes, there are some areas where women are enjoying equality.
Even though there are more women in the workforce than ever before, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2012 women earned 81% of a man’s weekly median income! Last time I checked 100% is the percentage that is equal. This percentage is probably lower for African American and Latino women. Anytime there is an inequity in this country, people of color suffer more of the inequity, regardless of gender.
It is time that we take our businesses out of the shadows and start treating our business dreams like business rather than a hobby. Even if you haven’t made it big yet, start thinking big, acting big, dressing big, presenting your business as big. God’s plan for your business and your life is bigger than you could ever dream possible.
As my dear friend and international motivational speaker, Jewel Diamond Taylor states, “Get up off of your assets and procrastination is a thief!”
If you can’t borrow money to start or grow your business, ask someone else to borrow the money for you or take a serious look at your budget to see what you can cut out so that you will have extra money to start or market your business. Whatever you do, do not succumb to the belief that you must have a lot of money up front to start a business.
Use what you have. One place where equality reigns supreme is in the gifts and talents bestowed upon us by our Creator.
There are a lot of free and inexpensive tools available to help you launch and grow your business. As you begin to earn money, you will need to reinvest in the business but for now, use what you have.
The key is to get started. Do something NOW – TODAY to either launch, market or grow your business!
Begin to focus on activities that will actually advance your business rather than wasting time and energy on busy work that is akin to walking on a treadmill; you are moving but you are not going anywhere.
Start collaborating with like-minded women in your local community and online.
Seek to purchase goods and services from each other.
Don’t be afraid that there is not enough to go around and that if you support another woman, you will lose something in the process. This is a vast universe and whatever business idea that God has given you is yours. Even if thousands of other people are selling the same product or service, you can put your unique stamp on your product or service and stand out.
